British Columbia – Health Care Assistant
BC’s HCA industry, registry, schools and employment resources
Formerly known as ‘Resident Care Assistant’, the province recently changed the professional name to Health Care Assistant (HCA).
“The Ministry of Health Services launched the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry at the end of January.”
On the surface the registry appears to be simple. Care Aides register where/when they have completed a educational/certification program. According to the official governmental webpage, employers are only able to check a persons name & educational history.
While the province does recognize the HCA moniker, related courses such as community support worker and community mental health worker exist.
However, most employers appear to be interested in a HCA certification from new students.
